These last five weeks have been very interesting normally a 16-week course crammed into 5 weeks with 3 major academic essays required. 21 years ago, was my last college English course and so much has changed since then, this has been a quick and challenging summer semester. To be honest, going into English 1302 I thought it would be a breeze, but I soon learned it is hard work and dedication. My Argument Proposal essay on narcissism was a simple one, so I thought because of dealing with a narcissist for many years. I soon learned I wanted to explain what narcissism is rather than find solutions, so it became a bit of a challenge to write this essay.
Choosing narcissism and attempting to follow the correct format was very challenging because of my background with the epidemic in my life, I wanted to focus on my situation. After submitting my essay, I received the following feedback, “I need an academic research essay in academic format. It must have research included or it is just an informative essay regurgitating info. All citations on the WC page must be within the essay. Focus only on solutions, not causes, etc...” (Professor Hammett per Bright Space). After receiving that feedback, I reread my essay and realized a new essay had to be submitted. Keeping in mind solutions only and not too much informative info was still a challenge, I rewrote my essay, corrected a few things, and submitted it for the second time.
I feel like my writing skills will improve as time goes on and I get more experience writing essays for my other college courses. I had two other classes this semester with essays due, the formats and punctuation learned in ENGL 1302 applied to those as well. ENGL 1302 has taught me to observe what I am reading and watching and also what I am writing in text form.
